Welcome to Our Center

Berks Center for Digestive Health is pleased to welcome you to our facility.

We are an outpatient center dedicated to providing the highest quality endoscopic services in a comfortable atmosphere.  Our center is a place where you will receive quality care and then return to the comforts of your home the very same day.

The Berks Center for Digestive Health is owned and operated by the physicians of Digestive Disease Associates.  An alternative location for performing your endoscopic procedures is The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

Prior to Your Procedure

  • Make arrangements for someone to drive you home.  Your escort must be 18 years of age or older.  Please limit the number of persons accompanying you to no more than two.  Only one person will be allowed in the recovery room with you.
  • You may not take any form of transportation home unaccompanied.
  • Please make arrangements for childcare in advance.  The center is not designed to accommodate small children
  • If you have to cancel or reschedule your appointment or have any questions regarding your medication or the preparation for a procedure, please contact Digestive Disease Associates at 610-374-4401 opt. 5.

Reminder and Check List the Day of Your Procedure

If you need to cancel your appointment on the day of your procedure, please contact Berks Center for Digestive Health at 610-328-3229. 

Please bring your insurance card.  You will also need your eyeglasses.  You should leave all jewelry and valuables at home.  Berks Center for Digestive Health cannot take responsibility for safeguarding your personal items.

  • Please bring your photo ID.
  • Please check in at the receptionist desk on time. 
  • Please bring a list of any current medications you are taking.
  • Please bring a list of allergies, which may include allergies to medications, latex, or food.
  • If you have a pacemaker, please bring your manufacturer's ID card.
  • If you have sleep apnea and use a C-PAP machine, please bring it with you.

PLEASE BRING A DRIVER OR RESPONSIBLE PERSON OVER THE AGE OF 18 WITH YOU FOR THE DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE.  YOU MAY NOT DRIVE AFTER HAVING SEDATION. 

PLEASE NO DRIVING UNTIL THE DAY FOLLOWING YOUR PROCEDURE.

After Your Procedure

  • Your escort will be required to sign the written discharge instructions prior to your departure.
  • We would prefer your driver stay in the immediate area during your procedure.  If they do need to leave, they must return to the center within 30 minutes.  We require a phone number for your driver if they do not stay on site.
  • Patients will remain in the recovery area until they are aready for discharge.
  • You may not take any form of transportation home unaccompanied.
  • It would be best if someone could stay with you at home after your procedure.
  • We will call you the following business day after your procedure to inquire about your well-being.  This is an opportunity to ask any questions you still have and to voice any concerns regarding your visit to the center.  If we are unable to reach you, we will send a postcard to you in a final attempt to verify your well-being.
  • Please be aware that you or your insurance company will receive at least three bills as a result of your procedure.  Three separate business entities are involved, and bill for each portion of their paraticipation in your procedure.  The three entities are: the facility, the doctor, and the anesthesia group.  Additionally, if a tissue sample is taken during the procedure, there will be a fourth bill from the pathology lab.  If you have any questions about your bill(s), please feel free to contact BCDH at 610-288-3229.
